The Dr. Azimi cosmetic dentistry team in downtown Las Vegas is pleased to announce the area's best value on Invisalign teeth straightening treatments.
For the remainder of 2008, Dr. Azimi will discount Invisalign treatments for anyone 18 and older by $1,000.

"Invisalign treatments consist of a series of aligners that are changed about every two weeks," explained Dr. Azimi. "Each aligner is custom made to gradually shift teeth into alignment. It's a much less intrusive approach than braces. Patients keep the virtually-invisible aligners on except on special occasions, when they eat, drink or brush their teeth, and most people don't even notice the clear aligners."

Depending on the patient's orthodontic needs, an Invisalign treatment typically takes just under a year.

Additionally, for Dr. Azimi patients who have regular dental hygiene checkups (at least every six months), they receive free bleaching for life. After the second cleaning patients are fitted for custom bleaching trays and from then on, as long as they maintain a regular check-up schedule, they receive free take-home bleaching supplies.

Dr. Azimi's free bleaching for life is an ongoing program for current and new patients.

Dr. Azimi provides general and cosmetic dentistry from a convenient and comfortable downtown Las Vegas location, in the heart of the area's legal district.

If you're ready for a smile that transforms your appearance, there has never been a better time to try Invisalign. Nothing works as effortlessly as the Invisalign system. Visit Invisalign.com for more information.

Dr. Azimi invites his existing and new patients to use Invisalign - the best way to transform your smile without interfering with your life.

The Dr. Azimi dental team is focused on patient care and convenience. A relatively new implant procedure, offered by Nobel Biocare, is the All-on-4 immediate function dental restoration. The procedure provides for the quickest, most convenient treatment for some patients.

All-on-4 refers to a process by which four implants are inserted to hold a full set of new replacement teeth. After an initial consultation the procedure can be performed in just one appointment, and without bone grafts.

During the initial consultation Dr. Azimi’s team utilizes a three-dimensional CAT scan and software to plan the dental implant placement and design of the final replacement teeth. The new teeth are fabricated by Nobel Biocare and when everything has been prepared and delivered to Dr. Azimi’s office, the patient comes in for a one-time dental work appointment.

During the appointment the four implants are inserted in the patient’s mouth and the new teeth are attached. The patient leaves with new, permanent teeth.

“The All-on-4 process is particularly useful for people with dentures,” said Dr. Azimi. “The dentures can be replaced with permanent implants and fixed, non-removable replacement teeth all in one dental visit.”

Dr. Azimi’s team remains on the cutting edge of dental technology and practice. It is one of a select number of Southern Nevada dentists who offer the FDA approved All-on-4 dental procedure.

One of the most common excuses people use for not going to the dentist is fear. In fact, studies show that approximately 145 million Americans avoid the dentist solely due to fear.

Dentistry has evolved over the years to accommodate those with a fear of the dentist's chair. In fact, thanks to a specific family of anti-anxiety pills, a visit to the dentist can be relaxing and even fun.

Dr. Azimi, Las Vegas' downtown and cosmetic dentist, provides anxious patients with a type of benzodiazepine pill to help decrease anxiety by binding with receptors in the brain which tone down activity in those parts of the brain responsible for fear.

"A small benzo pill provides the way for many people to have their dental care accomplished while they are totally relaxed and absolutely comfortable," said Dr. Azimi. "This sedation approach to dentistry is very effective and yields the same results, only without anxious patients. We like to call it anxiety-free dentistry."

The Dr. Azimi team believes oral health is an indicator of overall health and well-being. As such, each team member is sensitive to a patient's needs, working to provide the best outcome and cause the least amount of stress.

Many technological advances have improved the practice of dentistry. Now with sedation, or anxiety-free dentistry, Dr. Azimi is able to bridge the gap between technology and comfort for his downtown Las Vegas patients.

Dr. Azimi is the team dentist for the Las Vegas Wranglers professional hockey team.

LAS VEGAS — A new test is available that allows dentists and patients to combat gum disease. The test is called DNA-PCR and is administered at Dr. Azimi’s downtown Las Vegas dental office.

There are two parts to DNA-PCR testing. The first, Micro Ident, costs around $150 and identifies oral pathogens for the accurate diagnosis of periodontitis, or gum disease. The second, PST, is administered for about $130 and evaluates the person’s susceptibility to gum disease.

“Using DNA technology, the DNA-PCR test allows us to specifically identify oral bacteria that cause infections much earlier and treat them before they cause severe damage to a person’s health,” said Dr. Azimi, DDS, the first general and cosmetic dentist in Nevada certified to administer the DNA-PCR exam.

“To administer the test, we gather saliva samples from the patient’s mouth using cotton-tipped swabs,” Dr. Azimi continued. “The samples are then shipped to a laboratory for analysis. The lab sends us a detailed report identifying the oral bacteria present, allowing us to quickly and precisely diagnose and treat periodontal disease.”

In the past, periodontal disease was treated by clinical signs and symptoms. Now DNA-PCR uses molecular biology technology derived from the Human Genome Project to provide a concrete method of identifying the disease, allowing dentists to prescribe an accurate treatment. The Human Genome Project, begun formally in 1990, was coordinated by the federal Department of Energy with the chief goal of identifying all of the approximately 25,000 genes in human DNA.

There are more than 600 different types of bacteria present in the human mouth. Scientists at the Forsyth Institute in Boston have identified 13 strains of pathogenic bacteria which are the most common chronic infection in the U.S. population. These strains cause gum disease and can also contribute to heart disease, stroke, preterm birth, pregnancy complications, worsening of diabetes and certain forms of cancer. Early treatment of periodontitis may help prevent these other health problems.

Gum disease, which affects 90 percent of Americans during their lifetime, is contagious and should be taken seriously. If one family member is diagnosed with periodontitis, other family members should be tested and receive treatment if necessary.

An oral health study — the largest government examination of the nation’s dental health in more than 25 years — by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention on April 30 noted that the percentage of adults who said they’d seen a dentist in the previous year dropped to 60 percent, from 66 percent.

“Knowing that good oral health is an indicator of overall health, and may in fact help prevent systemic disease, should be motivation enough for everyone to regularly visit a dentist,” Dr Azimi said. A systemic disease is a disorder that affects the entire body.

“Some insurance plans will cover the DNA-PCR test,” said Dr. Azimi. “But even without insurance reimbursement, the peace of mind that comes as a result of the exam is worth it.”
